The Waggon Sauna
Welcome to The Waggon, our off-grid, wood-fired sauna tucked away in the historic wood pasture of Hampton Estate, overlooking one of the most beautiful views in the Surrey Hills.
About Us
Built with care and local craftsmanship, The Waggon was created by Surrey Wood Products using our own timber from Hampton Estate. Parts of the structure have been made using reclaimed wood from the estate’s old hop kiln, giving new life to historic materials through thoughtful recycling.
Heated by a traditional Finnish wood-fired stove and surrounded by open skies, rolling hills and nature-filled landscapes, The Waggon is a place to slow down, warm up, and reconnect — with nature, with others, and with yourself.
The sauna sits at the heart of Hampton Estate’s pioneering work in nature restoration and regenerative farming. Every visit supports a living landscape — where wildlife is returning, soils are healing, and people are welcomed back into closer relationship with the land. Whether you’re staying at Waggoners Campsite, walking the estate, or simply visiting for a sauna session, The Waggon offers a chance to reset — warmed by fire, grounded by nature.

Stress Relief: Wood-fired saunas in the wild offer a multi-sensory experience - the crackle of burning wood, the scent of natural timber, the sounds of nature and the sight of shifting weather or wildlife over Hampton Estate helps to calm your mind and promote a sense of well-being.
Elemental Detox: Harnessing the ancient power of fire, The Waggon Sauna raises your core temperature to stimulate the body’s natural cleansing pathways. Through a deep, rhythmic sweat, impurities are washed away, unveiling a natural, healthy glow inside and out.
Immune System Support: The temporary rise in body temperature mimics a fever, stimulating the production of vital white blood cells and bolstering your body’s natural immune defences.
Improved Circulation and Cardiovascular Health: Alternating between the intense heat of a wood-fired sauna and cold water therapies invigorates the senses. Heat causes blood vessels to dilate, while cold causes them to constrict, this improves blood flow and overall circulation and delivers fresh, oxygenated blood to vital organs.
Reduces Inflammation and Promotes Recovery: The elemental heat works to dissolve inflammation and melt away the stiffness deep within tired muscle fibres that follows a day of adventure. Whether you have been walking Puttenham Common, or camping at Waggoners Campsite, the sauna provides profound relief and will leave you feeling limber, light, and ready for your next journey.
Deep, Restorative Sleep: The gentle cooling process following your ritual signals the nervous system to descend into a state of peace, paving the way for a night of uninterrupted, restorative slumber.
A Cherished Experience and Lasting Memories: In a world of digital distractions, the wild sauna ritual serves as a profound anchor for connection, transforming a simple wellness practice into an unforgettable shared journey. The deep relaxation and "dopamine surge" following a session leaves everyone in a heightened state of contentment and openness. The memories formed in this peaceful "afterglow" are often the ones that linger most vividly in the mind.
-
The sauna is typically heated to 65-90, depending on conditions and the session. The heat is natural, dry-to-humid, and gently fluctuates while the fire burns and the softness of the steam envelops you.
